We often get asked: “Why doesn’t the SunChair have a built-in drink holder?” Fair question. What started as a quick email reply to a curious customer turned into a full-blown design manifesto — so here we are.
Thanks for the feedback, Rick,
The idea of a built-in cup holder wasn’t ignored in the design process — it was carefully considered. But in the end, a strap-around drink holder made more sense. Here’s why:
👎 The Problem with Built-Ins
- Welding issues: Built-ins require seams in tight spots, which complicates manufacturing and weakens quality control.
- No universal size: Is it for a Red Bull? A Yeti? A 30oz mug with a handle? Built-ins fail when one size doesn’t fit all.
- Water trap: That cozy little nook becomes a gross swampy cup of fur after a few dips in the water.
🧪 The "Innovations" That Just Don’t Work
Some competitors tried to get clever. Unfortunately, clever isn’t always better.
- Screw-in cup holders: A hard plastic spike jutting out from a float is just waiting to impale someone. Especially when kids are bouncing around.
- Magnetic cup holders: Sounds futuristic… until saltwater eats the magnets and you’re left with rusty orange streaks — and a mug system that only works with one brand.
✅ Why Our Drink Holder Just Works
Our neoprene drink holder straps around the float, flexes to fit most cans or tumblers, and detaches when not in use. No spikes. No rust. No swamp cup. Just a better design.
Built-in cup holders sound great until you actually use them. That’s why we kept it simple, and our customers love us for it.
